Durability and carpet flooring, what’s important to know?

Durability is one of the most significant factors when choosing carpeting; flooring's a big investment in your home. You want it to look great and perform well for a long time.

Do some research and talk to the flooring experts about your needs. You’ll be assured of selecting a quality rug that will last a long time.

Your needs are specific to you

Family size matters. Also, kids, pets, and room use are significant determinants.

Not every style works for everyone. The carpet you fell in love with down the street may not work for you.

Fiber choice: the most crucial decision you'll make

Fiber is the material from which the floor covering yarns is made. There are both natural and synthetic fibers.

Both are good choices, but it will come down to your personal preference and budget. Five are most commonly chosen.

They include wool: natural, soft, durable, and inherently soil-resistant. It's suitable for highly trafficked rooms and even those with pets.

The two most popular synthetics

Nylon is manufactured and ultra-strong with remarkable resilience. Ideal for high-traffic rooms, this also has excellent stain resistance when combined with a protectant.

Polyester is known for exceptional stain resistance. Best for moderately busy rooms.

You’ll also see in the carpet store:

Olefin (polypropylene) is budget-friendly, durable, and mainly associated with the Berber style—Triexta, known for ultra strength and permanent stain resistance built into the fiber.
